The special thinner from the Obake Sumi range, specifically formulated to maximize the two shades of gray without sacrificing fluidity or consistency. It's not water. It is not a conventional thinner. It's the secret component that allows you to create all the shades in between Nami and Kumo in a progressive and controlled way — opening up an almost infinite palette of grays from just three products. Without Tamashí, the Obake Sumi system is incomplete.

Why Tamashí is not a conventional thinner

Diluting a pigment with water has a known problem: Reducing the concentration of the pigment also alters its behavior — it flows differently, penetrates differently, and the end result is less predictable. The more water, the more inconsistency.

Tamashi is formulated to avoid exactly that problem. Its composition is designed to be compatible with the Japanese sumi base of Nami and Kumo — diluting the tonal concentration without altering the flow properties or the solidity of the gradient. The result is a lighter shade that behaves just like the original: with the same ease of application, the same solidity and the same predictability. The secret to high-quality grey wash with the Obake Sumi system.

The complete system: Nami + Kumo + Tamashí

The real power of the Obake Sumi system is in the interaction of its three components:
